Protect Crane Operators from exhausts, Merford Filter Unit

Unhealthy pollution can cause negative impact on the health and performance of the crane drivers. Ships at berth, many times have the generators running, creating polluted exhaust possibly entering into the operators cabin.

It’s important to protect crane operators against the exhausts of the vessels. On the other side, airing in the cabin is needed to provide the crane driver with the required oxygen. Therefore Merford developed a new filter system, the Merford Filter Unit.

To be sure this incoming air is free of pollution, its necessary the air is filtered from injurious gases. By using particle, chemical and dust filters the concentration of particles and dangerous gases inside the cabin will be limited. It’s always possible there will be a leakage of polluted outside air into the cabin. This can be avoided by creating a controlled overpressure in the cabin.

This new Merford Filter Unit is both a filter and overpressure unit. By measuring the overpressure and air-quality inside the cabin there is total control.Because the life span of the filter is measured the filters only have to be replaced when really needed. The replacement will only take a few seconds.

This unit is designed to install in existing cabins. Merford has also developed filter and overpressure systems as an integrated version for new cabins by using the same technology.

Temperature control is very important because it’s proven the human beings performance will be the best at 23º C to 24º C. Lowering or raising the temperature with 5 degrees will reduce performance with about 9%. (seppänen et al. 2003).

Effective control of such factors minimizes health-related risks and improves wellness and efficiency. Especially in extreme climates a good temperature control is a must.

To control the temperature inside cabins Merford designed a new fully automatic HVAC system, the Merford Climate Unit. The primary use of the Merford Climate Unit is to regulate cabin temperature, humidity, and air flow, ensuring that such elements remain within their acceptable ranges.

The Merford Climate Unit is a fully integrated climate control unit, consisting of air-conditioning, heating and fresh-air supply controlled by an intelligent control unit and provided with high de-misting function to create the perfect working conditions.

The system can be installed in an existing cabin as well as in a new cabin.
