Merford cabins in U.S. Steel industry

New Merford Cabins Nucor Crawfordsville

In September Merford Cabins has shipped two cabins to the US. The Cabins are installed and operating on Scrap Handling Cranes of Nucor Crawfordsville in Indiana. The order was handled in co-operation with our distributor Ace World Companies Fort Worth Taxes.

With the new cabins Merford tried to optimize the working environment, the visibility and the ergonomic situation of the crane operator. Because the crane operator has to look downwards several hours a day the cabin is equipped with the Merford Ergoseat. The Ergoseat is specially designed for operators looking downwards. The seat provides an upper-body support by means of fully adjustable consoles and makes it possible to vary position very easy. Besides the Ergoseat, the new cabs are equipped with high quality bottom windows to improve vision downward and to improve the operators posture while looking downward.

In consultation with physiotherapists, health practitioners, the crane operators themselves and the Technical Services of Steel Dynamics, Merford delivered and installed two new Ergoseats for hot metal cranes. The operator of this cabin has to look downwards several hours a day. The Ergoseat makes it possible to support the upper body of the crane operator when he is looking downwards. Highly appreciated by the operators is the possibility to vary their posture during their shifts. The lay-out of the consoles is optimised in such a way, 1 of the crane operators experienced less discomfort in his hands and wrists while operating the crane already after 1 week working in the Ergoseat.
